WHAT IS YES FOR WALNUT CREEK?
Yes For Walnut Creek was formed in 2009 by 40 community and civic leaders supporting the proposed Broadway Plaza expansion to allow for the Neiman Marcus store to be built. Over 200 volunteers worked for the committee in support of the proposed expansion. Yes For Walnut Creek has over 1,000 supporters including most city leaders.
In November 2009, voters approved Measure I, which was placed on the ballot by Walnut Creek residents to end the confusion being created by an out-of-town developer. Voters overwhelmingly approved Measure I with just under 72% of the vote.
As stated, Measure I will:
- Be an economic boost for Walnut Creek
- Help to maintain vital city services like police, libraries, arts, open spaces, parks, and recreation without raising taxes
- Require electronic parking garage counters at Broadway Plaza to make it easier to find parking
- Provide funds to extend downtown trolley hours and support shuttle services from Rossmoor
- Create a green building with highly advanced environmental features
